Why change brake fluid, and how often ?

Brake fluid is a vital part of the braking system. It is what transfers your foot pedal movement to push a piston to operate your brakes. The majority of vehicles use Dot 4 brake fluid. This fluid is hygroscopic, which means it allows moisture/water to mix with it over time, this will cause corrosion within the braking components, causing items like brake calipers to eventually seize up.

As a general rule brake fluid should be replaced at minimum every 2yrs or when the moisture content is at a maximum 3%. We at Autobodies check the brake fluid at every service and will advise if it requires replacement.

Replacement is priced at £55 , this includes a full check of all hoses and pipes as well as the important brake fluid replacement.
